While born in south Alabama, Herrin left the US when he was just turning four-years-old. His parents—missionaries Manget and Elaine Herrin—raised Jon and his two brothers in Guyana, South America, and on the island of Grenada in the West Indies. After coming to the US when he was turning 17-years-old, he finished high school and then studied English in university (B.A., M.A.T.). While in graduate school the first time around, Jon met his wife, Jeanne. From grad school, Herrin went on to become an Asst. Prof. of English.
While being a life-long educator (college, university, and seminary; teacher and administrator), Jon is also an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. Having studied theology and the Bible extensively (M.T.S., M.Div., Th.M., Th.D.), he enjoys teaching and writing for the Church and the Academy.
With his wife, Jeanne, and three children, Jon lived and served in both Venezuela and Mexico over the course of seven years in international cross-cultural service. In 2011, Jon and Jeanne settled in the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas, on the US/Mexico border, where they love the culture, food, and climate...and the slower speed of life.
Herrin’s hobbies and happy places include writing, reading, teaching, hiking, and ... espresso!
